Why redhill

Flexible fees

We know that approaching a solicitor can be worrying if you don’t understand what the costs are likely to be. Many people believe lawyers charge much more than they actually do.

At RedHill Legal, we believe the costs of legal advice and representation should not prevent people from accessing assistance from us. For this reason we offer a range of flexible options for payment of legal fees.

Like most lawyers, we charge using a hourly rate for the time that we spend on your file working for you. That rate varies according to the person who is doing the work on the file eg. senior lawyer or paralegal.

When you engage us we will give you a written agreement that sets out clearly the way that we will charge you. We will be transparent with you about your fees and provide you with detailed accounts that will show exactly how our money is being spent. We will also tell you how you can best minimise your fees by assisting us with your matter where possible, and managing communication with us so that we are able to do the most cost effective job on your matter.

Our agreement also sets out exactly what work we are going to do for you and an estimate of our costs for each stage of that work.

We ask our clients to place funds in our trust account so that we both know up front what you can expect our fees to be, and there are no surprises. Of course, things can change, and when they do we will tell you if your estimated fees change. We will not do work without your agreement as to your fees.

Some of our clients will place a lump sum in our trust account when they engage us in their matter. Some pay us a weekly or monthly amount that can be agreed with us. In some cases, we are able to offer to defer payment of part of all of our fees until you receive a settlement of your matter. We can also assist you with obtaining loans for legal fees if that is what you prefer.

We are also a preferred supplier for Legal Aid Queensland, who offer funding for a variety of legal matters for people who are on low incomes, Centrelink benefits or otherwise meet the criteria for support.

We will talk to you about the range of options for payment of legal fees in our initial appointment with you.

At your first meeting with one of our lawyers we need you to tell us a lot of detail in order for us to give you the answers you’re looking for.  You have questions for us and we will have questions for you, which cannot be accomplished in a five minute phone call.

This is why our $199 consultation lasts on average one hour, depending on the complexity of your legal issue.

You may want a consultation just to gather information or you may have been served with or are interested in filing a court application.  You may be wondering if you have grounds to make a claim or just need advice about your options.

When you’re ready to talk about your options, just call our office and provide the other’s party’s name for a quick conflict check and we’ll offer you some dates and times to meet.  It generally takes no more than a week to get an appointment with us. Although we prefer to meet with you in person, we offer telephone consultations if you live far away.

initial appointment $199

We offer a $199 initial consultation so we can ascertain if and how we can help you, and you can decide without any pressure if you want to work with us.

Depending on why you’re coming to see us we’ll tell you what information or documents you need to bring with you. If something has been filed already or you have a court order, please bring copies of those documents to your initial consultation as well as any other relevant documents  After our initial meeting, if you decide to instruct us, we will give you a list of what further information and documents we will need.

what to bring

Neither booking nor having a consultation with us makes us your lawyer.  The initial interview is not only an opportunity to gather information, but is a time for you to determine if you would like to hire us to represent you.  You are under no obligation.

You may refer to us as your lawyers once you sign a written fee agreement and pay fees in advance – also known as a retainer – which we will secure in a trust account for you.

If you are not ready to actually hire a lawyer, or if you decide to instruct a different firm, we still maintain a file for you as a potential client so that if you come back to us in the future, we have all the information discussed at your initial consultation.

no obligation
